World Temperance Day
Every year on October 3, World Temperance Day encourages people to avoid alcohol. It's also a day to learn about temperance movements around the world.
Fermented beverages and alcoholic beverages date back thousands of years. The ancient Egyptians and Chinese were among the first to drink alcohol. The Babylonians were known to worship a wine goddess in 2700 B.C. In Greece, an alcoholic drink called mead was extremely popular. The drinking of wine is also mentioned in the Bible. In fact, turning water into wine was Jesus' second recorded miracle.
Alcohol has long been a part of society and culture for thousands of years, as you can see. However, not everyone has looked at alcohol in a positive manner. Greek literature is full of warnings about excessive alcohol intake. The temperance movement in the 19th century helped to promote moderate use of alcohol. Some people wanted to prevent it all together, but some people wanted to discourage it all together. Alcohol is believed to be responsible for several of society's ailments, according to those in the temperance movements. Prohibition was also known as Prohibition at this time.
Temperance movements
Temperance campaigns were particularly popular in English-speaking countries. They were also common among Scandinavians. The majority of these movements were led by the day's religious figures. These are just a few of the temperance companies that emerged during Prohibition:: These are some of the temperance companies that emerged during Prohibition:
- Anti-Saloon League
- Temperance Unions are among the Gospel Temperance Unions that have been incorporated in the Gospel Temperance Union
- The Democratic Temperance League of the People's Democratic Temperance League is a member of the People's Democratic Temperance League
- The British Women's Temperance Association (now called White Ribbon) is a member of the British Women's Temperance Association (now called White Ribbon) is a member of the British Women's Temperance Association (now called White Ribbon)
- The Christian Temperance Union for Women is a Christian Temperance Union
- Alcoholism is a drug that has been banned from entering the World League Against Alcoholism
Some of these temperance groups were extremely successful in persuading governments around the world to prohibit the selling of alcohol. However, this caused other issues as people illegally made their own. Alcohol prohibitions in several countries eventually fell short. Alcohol is still outlawed in several countries, but there are others where alcohol is still outlawed. Yemen, United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Somalia, Libya, Bangladesh, and several states in India include Yemen, United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Somalia, Libya, Bangladesh, and several states in India.
