When is Squirrel Appreciation Day?
Saturday January 21stSquirl Appreciation Day celebrates a species that some consider a pest and others find fascinating. Christy Hargrove, the creator of North Carolina, is a wildlife rehabilitator who works with the Western North Carolina Nature Center and is affiliated with the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. Celebration of the event itself is up to the individual or group, Christy says, from putting out extra food for the squirrels to learning something new about the species.
According to the Integrated Taxonomic Information System of North America (ITIS), over 200 species are found in the world. The nocturnal arrow flying squirrel (validated in 1766) and the Black Giant are two of the oldest squirrels on the list, with the nocturnal arrow flying squirrel (validated in 1778) and the Black Giant. Ground squirrels, such as the thirteen-lined ground squirrel, the rock squirrel, California ground squirrel, and many others, blanket the prairies and deserts of North America. They often carry the name of pest, and they are often described as rodents, often causing injury. Predators also love them as a delectable morsel. They work together to shield themselves as a result. Their only defense is to flee!
