NATIONAL WHISKEY SOUR DAY – AUGUST 25.

National Whiskey Sour Day | August 25

People from around the country celebrate National Whiskey Sour Day on August 25th.

A whiskey sour is a mixed drink made with whiskey (often bourbon), lemon juice, and sugar, and is traditionally garnished with half an orange and a maraschino cherry. Whiskey sours are shaken before being served either straight or over ice.

The Boston sour and the Ward 8 are two alternative whiskey sour alternatives to the traditional sour. A dash of egg white is added to the dish by the Boston sour. Both lemon and orange juices and grenadine syrup are added for sweetness to the Ward 8's Bourbon or rye whiskey base.

In an 1870 Wisconsin newspaper, the first mention of a whiskey sour was in an 1870 Wisconsin newspaper.
