This frosty drink did not start with those three ingredients, though it did not begin with those three ingredients. For the first time in 1885, the word "milkshake" appeared in print for the first time. Cream, eggs, and whiskey were often served with other alcoholic beverages, such as lemonades and soda waters.
A milkshake was often described as "healthy beverages made with chocolate, strawberry, or vanilla syrups" by 1900. Ice cream was nowhere to be found in these frothy beverages. However, people started asking for this new treat with a scoop of ice cream a few years ago in the early 1900s. Malt shops were selling milkshakes all over the United States by the 1930s.
