The history of tacos predates the arrival of Europeans in Mexico. According to anthropological evidence, indigenous people in the Valley of Mexico's lake region traditionally eat tacos filled with small fish. Bernal Diaz del Castillo, the first taco feast enjoyed by Europeans at the time of the Spanish conquistadors, captured the first taco feast enjoyed by Europeans. In Coyoacan, Hernan Cortes arranged this meal for his captains. It's unclear why the Spanish used the term taco to describe this indigenous dish. One suggested source is the word ataco, which can refer to stuff or to stuff.
The National Taco Council was established in 1964 by Roberto L. Gomez. In 1967, the council sent a 55-pound taco to President Johnson.
