When is National Silence The Shame Day?
Friday May 5thNational Silence the Shame Day, May 5th, will provide an opportunity to continue the discussion of mental health and wellness as well as removing stigma associated with mental illness.
Mental disorders, as with every other health problem, are diagnosed at different stages. It may have fewer signs from time to time and/or impact on our daily activities. It is also important to know that mental disorders are treatable and recovery is possible.
Many people don't have an affordable or accessible routine plan of care for mental health problems in comparison to other areas of our health care, and no one has an affordable or accessible standard of care for mental health problems. Individuals who may have access to services often suffer in silence due to the stigma of being diagnosed.
