When is National Sewing Machine Day?

National Sewing Machine Day, June 13th, honors an invention that has kept us in stitches for more than 150 years. Stitch by a single stitch before the sewing machine, tailors, and sewists made clothing by hand, stitched by hand. Revolutions were brought about by the invention of the sewing machine. Not only did it raise an entire industry, but it also changed the way we thought about the clothes we wore. However, the sewing machine's introduction took time.

Thomas Saint, a British entrepreneur and a pioneer, received the first patent for a sewing machine model in 1790. He wanted his design to sew on leather and canvas. However, he never promoted it, and no evidence of the style other than his drawings could be found. William Newton Wilson, a London Patent Office en 1874, discovered Saint's drawings in the London Patent Office. Wilson created a working model with some minor changes.
