According to one account, Jerry Newberg's modern ice cream sandwich with the chocolate wafer was invented in 1945. In Pittsburgh, PA, the ice cream maker sold his product at Forbes Field. The storied location was home to the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers at the time.
