Baking soda and baking powder made banana bread and other quick breads common features in American cookbooks in the 1930s. In its 1933 Balanced Recipes cookbook, Pillsbury's included banana bread recipes. The banana bread's acceptance was boosted by the publication of Chiquita Banana's Recipe Book in 1950.
Bans were first introduced in the United States in 1870, surprisingly. For a long time, Americans thought the tropical fruit was simply that – a fruit, not an ingredient. It would take a few decades before the banana's potential was discovered.
