When is International Tiger Day?

Saturday July 29th

On July 29th, the International Tiger Day raises concerns about the declining numbers of the majority of the big cats' dwindling numbers. During meetings aimed at a mechanism for protecting and improving their natural habitats, global leaders focuses on the tiger.

International Tiger Day - July 29

100,000 tigers roamed Asia 100 years ago. Today, the estimated number brings the tiger population to fewer than 4,000 tigers in the wild. One of the day's goals is to double that number by 2022. It's called the Tx2 Initiative.

Every year, the Tx2 Initiative raises over $350 million to help save tigers. Investigators and rangers who patrol for poachers are paid for the bounty. The fund also pays for the protection of tiger habitat, studies of their populations and movements, and even builds thousands of wildlife trail cameras.
