What is World Thrombosis Day?
World Thrombosis Day, October 13th, draws attention on the undiagnosed medical condition of thrombosis. Many people affected by thrombosis are also able to share their stories.
Thrombosis is a medical disorder in which blood clots block the blood vessels. Venous thrombosis and arterial thrombosis are two forms of thrombosis. When the blood clot blocks a vein, a thrombosis occurs. When the blood clot blocks an artery, it is called arterial thrombosis.
thrombosis kills up to 900,000 people each year in the United States alone. Many people with venous thrombosis will have lifelong problems. Some of these include swelling, pain, and discoloration of the skin. Each year, up to 100,000 people in the United States die from thrombosis. On a global basis, 1 in every four people dies from thrombosis-related diseases.
Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is one of the most common thrombosis disorders. DVT is one of the most common causes of DVT.
