What is World Nutella Day?

What happens when hazelnuts and chocolate collide on World Nutella Day. For example, millions of people celebrate on February 5th each year.

It is often said that necessity is the mother of invention. During difficult times, adding hazelnuts when cocoa is impossible to obtain may have been an Italian trick. They made a paste of chocolate and hazelnuts in the 1800s in Piedmont, northern Italy's northern city, but the cocoa was not present.

Cocoa was once more difficult to come by at the end of World War II. Pietro Ferrero, the Pastry Maker, made loaves of this sweet paste and named it Giandujot. The Ferrero Company was established on May 14, 1946, just a few years later.

Ferrero didn't introduce the paste in a spreadable form until 1951. We didn't even know the spread by name until 1964, when Ferrero's son Michele gave the jar of creamy hazelnut and cocoa the name Nutella.
