What is National Vietnam War Veterans Day?

On March 29, National Vietnam War Veterans Day honors the men and women who served and sacrificed during the country's longest war.

South Vietnam's combat and combat support units were sent on March 29, 1973. Veterans of this time period are being treated with the reverence that was not so generously extended upon their return. Involving five presidents in the United States, crossing nearly two decades and 500,000 US military troops, it left an indelible mark on the American psyche.

On their first arrival on American soil, returning veterans did not always receive courteous greetings. Over 58,000 people were killed, with no one returning, and never to recover. The observance honors these men and women who answered the call to serve their country when she needed them. They didn't make the decision to go to war because they didn't make the decision to go to war.

We commemorate the service and sacrifice provided by all servicemen and women of this period during National Vietnam War Veterans Day.
