What is National Spicy Guacamole Day?
On November 14th, National Spicy Guacamole Day brings together some new flavors. Call your friends, get the chips out, and enjoy with a bowl of spicy guacamole dip.
Guacamole is an avocado-based sauce that originated with the Aztecs in Mexico. It's become a dip, sauce, and salad ingredient in American cuisine.
Guacamole is made by using a mortar and pestle to mash ripe avocados and then adding sea salt. Often tomatoes, onion, garlic, lemon juice, chili, yogurt, or other seasonings are added. To make the guacamole spicy, jalapenos, chilis, cumin, or red pepper can be added to the dish.
As a staple snack, Super Bowl Sunday and Cinco de Mayo celebrations feature acamole. Avocado sales have increased to 30 million pounds on those two days each year, as a result.
Unsaturated fat in a simple avocado has a healthy punch (the right one). Also, a single avocado contains significant amounts of Vitamin C and E. Good things come in small packages, though. In 1 cup of acamole, there are almost 400 calories.
