What is National Mario Day?
On Mar 10, National Mario Day in the United States recognizes an iconic character from a popular video game. The character, who is now known as Mario, first appeared in 1981 in a Nintendo game called Donkey Kong.
Mario was known by dedicated followers long before he was a plumber. Donkey Kong's Donkey Kong's creation portrays Mario as a carpenter named Jumpman. In 1983, Nintendo introduced a new game in which bad guy Jumpman transforms himself into an Italian plumber who saves princesses.
In the Nintendo games, Italian plumbers, Mario, and his brother Luigi all face numerous challenges. Depending on which game they play, granrs help Mario cross many different landscapes over the years to save Princess Toadstool or Princess Peach.
