What is National Iowa Day?

We recognize each state in the order they entered the union, beginning with Hawaii and ending with Hawaii on Independence Day. The 29th state to join the United States is known for fertile prairie, rolling hills, inspiring young people, and some nostalgic movie moments. Iowa's history, beauty, and hospitality have flourished from the Mississippi River to the harvests in Plymouth, Harrison, or Fremont counties.

The state was named for Iowa Native Americans who populated the area when the European settlement drove Eastern tribes westward.

Acquired as part of the Louisiana Purchase, Iowa Territory settlement didn't begin to function until the 1830s, but it didn't begin until about the 1830s.
