Pastrami enthusiasts around the country are looking forward to their new sandwich on January 14th as they celebrate National Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day.

Pastrami is usually made from beef, and popular delicatessen meat, pastrami is usually made from beef. Some people make their pastrami sandwich with pork, mutton, or turkey. Butchers first made pastrami as a way to preserve meat before refrigeration. They made pastrami by brining the raw meat in brine. Then they partially dried it and seasoned it with a mix of herbs and spices to be smoked and steamed.

When is National Sandwich Day?

In the second half of the 19th century, a surge of Romanian Jewish immigration (pronounced pastróme), a Romanian speciality, was introduced. Before the modified "pastrami" spelling was used, early English texts used the word "pastrama."

Sussman Volk, the first pastrami sandwich made in 1887, is credited with producing the first pastrami sandwich in New York. He said to have obtained the recipe from a Romanian friend in exchange for storing his luggage. Volk converted his butcher shop into a restaurant to sell pastrami sandwiches due to the success of his sandwich.
