What is National Cherry Cobbler Day?
Each year, National Cherry Cobbler Day is dedicated to the delectable tart dessert that many people enjoy with ice cream. Many believe the early American Colonies are where this dish originated from a lack of good cooking utensils.

Cobbler is a term used in the United States to describe a variety of dishes made from a fruit filling (cherry being a common choice) and a batter, biscuit, or pie crust that is then baked. Some cobblers have both a top and bottom crust.
Cobblers appeared in the early British American colonies. English settlers were unable to make their traditional suet puddings due to a lack of suitable ingredients and proper cooking equipment. They improvised by coating a stewed filling with a layer of uncooked biscuits or dumplings.
A cherry cobbler differs from a crisp as a cobbler lacks oatmeal. Sometimes the cobbler is topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, too!
