George Renninger of Wunderle Candy Company created candy corn in the late 1800s. His sweet treat reflected the vibrant colors of corn kernels. Candy corn was originally yellow, orange, and white. However, the Goelitz Candy Company didn't produce the candy until 1889, but it wasn't until 1889 that the Goelitz Candy Company introduced the candy. Later, other candy manufacturers introduced a variety of popular colors and flavors as well.
Hand made corn syrup, sugar, water, marshmallows, fondant, and carnauba wax (a wax made from the leaves of a palm tree) was used to make the original confection. However, modern candy makers use machines to produce the original ingredients.
Several recipes create the candy corn flavors in cakes, cookies, beverages, and other items these days.
