What is National Backyard Day?
Our backyards have become our home away from home, our playgrounds, and an extension of our houses. We've commemorated National Backyard Day and all the ways we've improved the spaces and places we've named our oasis on March 19th. We love our backyards.
They're no longer just a little patch of land with some lawn chairs anymore. They may barely be a porch or a concrete stamp, for some of us. We convert them into Staycation Destination #1 at the end of the workweek. We've mastered square foot gardens, vertical gardening, pallet furniture, the art of charcuterie, and massive lawn games. Movies have flooded into big screens under an open sky and Adirondack seating, and they've become our outdoor theaters with movies projected onto large screens.
We love nature in the evenings, so we can explore nature in our backyards. We wait for the bees to eat their nectar. Our bird feeders attract birds of every size and color, as well as furry creatures like them. We take a look at the skies at night, tracking satellites and identifying constellations. We may get a meteor shower or two with luck.
Our backyards provide quiet solitude, a satisfying break for reading and napping, as well as a place for gathering with friends and family. We've returned to our backyards to connect nature, to each other, and ourselves.
