What is International Plastic Free Day?
International Plastic Free Day is a call to action that draws attention to the plastic we use every day. On May 25th, pledge to using no single-use plastic for a day (including bottles, take-out food containers, utensils, bags, and wrappers).
Plastic is made every year in over 380 million tonnes. Plastic made in half is single-use, implying that it is thrown away after just one use. Since only 9% of all plastic is recycled, the bulk of it ends up littering our streets, filling our landfills, and polluting our oceans.
International Plastic Free Day raises the issue of how much plastic we use every day and how we can use less of it.
