National Walk To A Park Day
A neighborhood's backyard is a public park and green space. They provide nearby residents with a place to play, collaborate, and enjoy the outdoors' benefits. We're encouraged to walk to our local parks on October 10th, which is why National Walk to a Park Day is on October 10th. Feel the wind on your face. Take in the fall weather. Visit with neighbors. Play with your children. And, of course, appreciate all the benefits that green spaces provide communities.

Parks are an important part of improving public health. They provide a place to play, exercise, and commune with nature. They promote equitable and flourishing communities. Communities are also shielded from the climate change's impacts. Despite this, 100 million people, including 28 million children, do not have access to a quality park within a 10-minute walk from home.
This is not only a green space celebration, but it is also a call to action for cities to ensure that everyone around the United States has access to a quality park within a 10-minute walk of their house.
As part of this national day, walk to your local park and encourage your neighborhood to invest more public parks and green spaces.
How to plan a walk to a park day
On National Walk to a Park Day, you'll find many ways to commemorate. The first step is to step outside your house! Invite family, acquaintances, and neighbors to join you. Add activities to make your day at the park fun and memorable.
- Walk your new route to your local park on your new route
- Frisbees, balls, gloves, and gloves are among the sporting gear you can bring with you
- Pack a picnic lunch
- Host is a community gathering
- Bring a book or art work with you
And don't forget, public parks include playgrounds, beaches, trails, and some schoolyards, too. Capture your happiness in photos and video and post them on social media, too. Join the discussion by tagging them with #WalkToAParkDay and @10MinWalk.
A national walk to a park day in history has made history by a park day walk
On October 10, 2017, the Trust for Public Land launched the 10-Minute Walk Campaign, a campaign that encourages mayors to ensure that everyone in US cities has access to a quality park within a 10-minute walk of their house. The Campaign received nearly 300 pledges from mayors around the country to improve park access for its residents by 2021. The Trust for Public Land founded National Walk to a Park Day on October 10th, the same year, to raise the awareness and emphasize on the role green spaces play in our lives.
The 10-Minute Walk Campaign is accelerating the development of parks that foster equitable, healthy, and flourishing communities by urging mayors to ensure that everyone in cities in the United States has access to a quality park within a 10-minute walk of their house.
