National Talk Like Shakespeare Day
National Talk Like Shakespeare Day, on April 23rd each year, encourages us to talk like the Bard and the characters in his plays.
William Shakespeare (April 1564-April 23, 1616), author of some of the world's most celebrated plays and poems, is the author of some of the world's most celebrated plays and poems. In 2016, we commemorated the Bard's death for the 400th anniversary. What better way to honor his life and art than by speaking like the poet and playwright.
We can all be Shakespeare by substituting thou, thee, and ye for you and them. His particular favorites were rhyming couplets and sarcastic insults. We owe Shakespeare to many of the terms we use today.
We could make you wait with bated breath for the list. We could take you on a wild goose hunt to find them. If we did, we may just be the laughing stock for goodness sakes.
Ah, come now. With fire, there is no need to fight fire. Come what may we will tell you the naked truth and teach you how to talk like Shakespeare. While we're at it, we'll pull you out of the jaws of death and put you in a pickle.
What makes your hair stand on end? Did we put your teeth on alert? Well, what's been done is done.
You may be such a sad sight, but the world is your oyster even if you wear your heart on your sleeve. You have seen better days in Aye! We must send you packing. Well, it's all Greek to you!
