National Smile Power Day

National Smile Power Day, the 15th anniversary of each year, has one elptive word.

#smilepowerday

With a smile, start the morning greeting and the first "How can I help you?" Starting the day with a smile is certainly more empowering than a pout or grump, no matter where you are employed, career seeking, retired, or searching for new horizons. Starting with a smile first is quicker than attempting to get there later in the day.

When you smile at someone, you are showing them that they are important and deserving the smile that you just gave them. Smiles are morale boosters and confidence builders.

According to study, smiling actually does raise attractiveness and likability among humans. Smiling builds greater confidence and increased interpersonal communication. Smiling at someone who can help them relax and relieve their anxiety while still making you feel at ease, too. Even if you don't feel like it, smiling will lift your mood and make you a happier person.

How to celebrate smile power day in a nutshell

Today, challenge yourself to smile more often. Use a smile to disarm a tense situation, or simply smile during your daily activities. Is your smiling face causing you to have trouble?

Here are some tips to make your smile

  • Consider a few happy times that automatically bring a smile for you. You know, those moments when you belly laughed until your stomach hurts or a time when you were so proud of yourself that smiling stopped hurting from smiling. Keep those memories handy and use them to make you smile more often
  • Save a few short jokes that are just so silly that you can't help but smile. Also tell them to others. The best ones are simple children's gags or riddles that play on words
  • Learn Spoonerisms. People stop and think about this fun way of converting letters in two words in a sentence to produce new words. And then they smile, and so will you! "I'll have the keys and parrots" instead of ordering peas and carrots at a restaurant, an example of a Spoonerism is that instead of ordering peas and carrots at a restaurant, you say, "I'll have the keys and parrots"
  • Make a list of the things you're grateful for. Which ones make you smile? Which ones make you smile? Make the list handy and refer to it often. Add to it and see your smiles grow
