National Rocky Road Day

On June 2nd, chocolate, marshmallows, and nuts are among the National Rocky Road Day treats. Ice cream is the most popular way to eat Rocky Road in the United States.

Although Rocky Road comes in many variations, most commonly, the ice cream includes chocolate ice cream, nuts, and marshmallows. Today, there are variations of vanilla ice cream, chocolate chips, and almonds.

For many years, people have been enjoying this delectable blend. This ice cream's origins are conflicting, as there are often cases with the development of something new. William Dreyer made rocky road ice cream sometime in the late 1920s, drawing on Joseph Edy's chocolate candy to make rocky road ice cream. The Dryer did something he was probably told a hundred times not to do a hundred times not to do. He chopped up marshmallows and walnuts and added them to chocolate ice cream using his wife's sewing scissors. Of course, it was delicious, so he was certainly forgiven for using her good sewing shears for anything other than fabric!

George Farren was another contributor to the development of rocky road ice cream. He had simply converted a candy bar into chocolate ice cream, resulting in the creamy dessert.

During the Great Depression, the stock market crashed shortly after, and the ice cream was given the name Rocky Road to bring smiles to faces.
