National Rescue Dog Day

National Rescue Dog Day, May 20th, recognizes all the benefits of allowing a four-legged canine to adopt you into your lovable life.

According to the ASPCA, nearly 3.3 million dogs enter shelters each year. Each one of these abandoned and injured animals find their way to a shelter, and their potential is limitless. They're rescue dogs.

Dogs will find a way to nuzzle, fetch, or beg your way into your heart, regardless of their size, color, or breed. You'll find it difficult not to scratch one behind the ear rather than scratching one behind the ear.

Rescue dogs often overcome difficult obstacles. And yet, they provide comfort, safety, and companionship as family pets. Rescue dogs are also able to do much more. They contribute to the independence of people with disabilities with training as service animals and elderly people with dementia. They become our eyes, ears, or legs as well as our best friend under these circumstances.

In addition, rescue dogs provide a variety of therapeutic benefits. Children, teens, and adults with autism may be able to benefit from services provided by trained rescue dogs. Rescue dogs can help with anxiety, depression, and PTSD among the military or those suffering from mental illness.

They're also excellent tutors. Children are taught by rescue dogs about caring and kindness. Rescue dogs can even be trained to rescue us from dangerous situations or help with investigating the cause of a fire.

Four-legged friends' health is improved by leaps and bounds, barks, and yips. It's difficult to imagine a more helpful, worthy companion. It's time to treat them!

How to celebrate national rescue dog day

Get involved in the lives of rescue dogs. There are a variety of ways to announce puppy love.

  • Volunteer at your local shelter. Walking dogs for walks, grooming, and giving them lots of love improves their socialization
  • Shelters always need donations. Financial contributions are always welcome. The majority of shelters have a list of regular needs, such as blankets, bleach, toys, candy, and leashes
  • Consider adoption and giving one a forever home if you have space in your household for a rescue dog
  • Consider fostering. Before an adoption can take place, many dogs that were abandoned in shelters need some surgical or rehabilitation in a home setting
  • Remember to spay and neuter your animals. Overpopulation is the number one reason shelters exist

Tails That Teach founded National Rescue Dog Day on May 20 to celebrate the many ways rescue dogs have inspired the human family to be a part of the family. The day also raises concerns about the number of dogs in shelters. With every belly rub, they fill their forever homes with unconditional love and unabandoned joy.
