This batter-made breakfast dish dates back more than 30,000 years and is also known as Johnnycakes, griddle cakes, or hotcakes. In fact, it may be the oldest breakfast dish in history.

When revelers would dine before fasting, it became a traditional part of Fat Tuesday (Shrove Tuesday) celebrations. They still do! Fruit and other fillings can be made and filled with thin cakes. Usually, though, they're stacking and drizzled with flavored syrup.

Topping, add fruit, nuts, or whipped topping. Pancakes, ham, hashbrowns, and other morning menu items also make a delectable supper, although mostly served as a breakfast dish, pancakes, bacon, ham, hashbrowns, and other morning offerings make a hearty supper. In several households, breakfast for dinner is a welcome change of pace.

National pancake day is the first national pancake day in history

This food holiday's humble beginnings date back to 2005. Lumberjack Day was the observance that began as Lumberjack Day. AF Venable, Marianne Ways and Collen AF Venable wanted an excuse to eat pancakes and waffles with friends. Since it was one week after "Talk Like a Pirate Day" and that theme had been worn out, eating a lot of pancakes like a lumberjack seemed to be a better holiday than ever.
