Lord Lamington was involved in all of the stories about how the lamington came about. According to one story, his chef was called up on short notice to feed unexpected visitors. With the limited number of ingredients he had on hand, the chef created the cake. However, the guests were so impressed with the delectable cake that they asked for the recipe that they requested for the recipe.
This delectable cake is the result of a mix-up in the kitchen, according to another story. A maidservant mistakenly converts Lord Lamington's favorite sponge cake into melted chocolate in this tale. Lord Lamington suggests coating the chocolate-covered sponge cake with coconut, but not wanting to waste the food.
