National Great Poetry Reading Day

National Great Poetry Reading Day is a observance of National Poetry Month's April 28th. This day honors distinguished poetry and the influential poets who wrote them.

Poetry may predate literacy as an art form. Epic poetry seems to have been composed in poetic form to aid memorization and oral transmission in prehistoric and ancient cultures. Other forms of poetry are specifically from folk songs.
