All children with critical illnesses are eligible for National Gift of the Ladybug Day, January 28th, honors all children with significant illnesses. The day is also a chance to raise concerns of childhood illnesses and help the children and families with medical difficulties.

Carole Mac's book The Gift of the Ladybug follows a family of horses who discover their child is a ladybug and will not live long. Hundreds of families every day receive a diagnosis that puts their child's life in jeopardy. The ladybug is the most recognizable representation of a child facing a serious illness. Her life may be short, but she's just the way she is. The beautiful ladybug captures our imaginations and gives us a reason to celebrate.

Author Carole Mac founded National Gift of the Ladybug Day on January 28 (the birthday of her dearly deceased son) 2022 to highlight the growing popularity of The Gift of the Lady Bug and its ability to bring people together to celebrate children with critical illnesses. After receiving troubling news about her son, Mac's inspiration for the book The Gift of the Ladybug emerged. She found a way to ease her grief by releasing The Gift of the Ladybug, a children's book, in order to help others. As a way to deal with the news with calm and love, it has since been a tool for families of children with critical illnesses.
