NATIONAL GET UP DAY - February 1
Wed Feb 1st

National Get Up Day

On February 1st, National Get Up Day will bring inspiring tales of perseverance. The day reminds us to pick ourselves up after we've fallen and give it (whatever it is) a try.

When rinks around the country bring families together to experience skating's joys and benefits, the official end of National Skating Month (January) comes to an end. How to fall and get back up is one of the first lessons every figure skater learns. This day isn't just about skating, though. It's about the Get Up spirit, which can be applied to every facet of life. Through stories, photographs, videos, and social media, the day inspires others.

More importantly, February 1st reminds us all that we should get up when we stumble. We never know when our attempts to achieve a goal or overcome an obstacle will encourage another to do the same. Share your Get Up Story on National Get Up Day to inspire whether you're inspired on or off the ice, in a classroom, through a coworker, or in your own neighborhood.

History of national get up day has dominated national get up day

Figure Skating founded National Get Up Day on February 1, 2017 to give Get Up stories in communities around the country and encourage others to Get up. One week before the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea, the world was encouraged to broadcast Get Up stories as part of the inaugural celebration.

Get up FAQ

Is National Get Up Day only for athletes?

A. No. A. No. A. No. When we fail, everyone needs encouragement to "get up." The day serves as a reminder to keep trying, keep learning, practicing, and trying again. We only fail when we stop trying.

Q. How can I motivate myself to get up when I fail?

A. Allow yourself permission to learn from your mistakes. There's always something to learn from the previous attempt, no matter what you're aiming for.
