The national earth day celebrations have a long tradition in the United States

Secretary-General U Thant at the United Nations signed a sanctioned Proclamation on March 21, 1970, 1970. Senator Gaylord Nelson of the United States established Earth Day on April 22, 1970, a month later, on April 22, 1970.
