National Drive-in Movie Day
On June 6th each year, the day the first drive-in theater opened on June 6th. Richard M. Hollingshead Jr. of Camden, New Jersey, founded the drive-in theater, and he opened the first one on June 6, 1933.

The screen at this first drive-in theater was 40 feet by 50 feet, and there were 400 car slots. "The entire family is welcome, regardless of how tumultuous the children are," the commercial slogan was used. Wife Beware, An Adolphe Meniou film, was the first film to be shown. The idea grew quickly, and drive-ins began to appear in other places, too. About 4,000 drive-ins dot the United States by the late 1950s, dotted the nation.

However, the introduction of color television, VCRs, and video rentals, along with the rise in land values and widespread use of daylight saving time, resulted in a dramatic decline in drive-in popularity.
