NATIONAL DAYLIGHT APPRECIATION DAY – June 21
Wed Jun 21st

National Daylight Appreciation Day

On June 21st, the summer solstice (the longest day of daylight in the northern hemisphere) is celebrated each year and encourages people to enjoy the sun's many benefits.

In addition, the day gives you the opportunity to learn more about the importance of daylighting. To naturally light interior spaces, Daylighting is using skylights, windows, and other architectural openings. Doing so not only helps to reduce energy consumption but also has health benefits.

When natural light is present, certain areas of daylighting are designed with automatic dimming systems. These designs minimize the amount of artificial light needed. The process is known as daylight harvesting.

Daylight has positive psychological benefits, as well. In addition to raising energy levels, it can improve your mental stability and help reduce depression. Vitamin D, which we naturally get from the sun, also has numerous health benefits for us.

How to #daylightappreciationday

Enjoy the summer solstice and the sunshine. And, most importantly, let the sun shine into your house! Open the windows and bask in the sunshine as the longest day of the year approaches us. Let it light and brighten your day by letting it flood your house with light and brightness. To celebrate, try these other ways.

  • Photographs of the same place throughout the day to show how the light changes
  • Plant a small herb garden in the sunniest window in your house and reap the benefits in your cooking
  • Capture a cat nap in a sunbeam

All day, enjoy #DaylightAppreciationDay.
