The international podiatry day has a long tradition in the United States

The International Federation of Podiatrists was established in 1947 to pioneer the field of podiatry around the world. The Federation advances the podiatric profession by sharing information and findings among its members. The IFP currently has 26 countries as members.

The International Podiatry Day is credited to the IFP for coordinating International Podiatry Day. The World Foot Health Awareness Month was held by the IFP from 1996 to 2016. This was their way of raising concerns about the importance of foot health. This observance was changed to International Podiatry Day in 2018.
