International Orangutan Day
International Orangutan Day, on August 19th, raises concerns about the threat of orangutans' extinction. For the love of orangutans, the love of orangutans is shared. Celebrate these amazing apes and encourage the public to take action in safeguarding them.
Since orangutans have 97% of the same DNA as humans, it shouldn't surprise that they are so intelligent. "person of the wood" translates to English, which may explain why the word "orangutan" turns into English. Here are some more entertaining facts about orangutans.
- Captivity can live up to 60 years in captivity
- Orangutans mainly eat fruits and leaves, with Orangutans eating mostly fruits and leaves
- Spend the majority of their time in the trees, where they swing from branch to branch, from branch to branch
- Can weigh up to 100 kilograms, or 220 pounds, which is equivalent to 220 pounds
- Have an arm span of 6.5 feet
- There are three species of orangutans, including the Bornean, the Sumatran, and the Tapanuli. Unfortunately, all three of these species are endangered
According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), there are only 104,700 Bornean orangutans, 7,500 Sumatran orangutans, and just 800 Tapanuli orangutans. Sadly, humans are the greatest threats to an orangutan's survival. For example, deforestation encroaches on their habitats. In addition, illegal hunting kills 3,000 orangutan lives each year. According to some wildlife experts, the orangutan's extinction in the wild is likely within the next 50 years.
Several organizations are involved in helping orangutans. The Centre for Orangutan Protection, the Sumatran Orangutan Society, the Sumatran Orangutan Society, The Orangutan Project, Orangutan Outreach, and Humane Society International are among these organizations.
How to celebrate #internationalorangutanday
If you're a fan of orangutans, you'll want to help them save from extinction. Even if you've never seen a live orangutan, you may recognize a famous one. In the Disney Production of Jungle Book, For example, the one in the Clint Eastwood film Every Which Way But Loose, or Louie.

The international orangutan day has a long tradition of international orangutan day
As a way to foster conservation and welfare, World Orangutan Events founded International Orangutan Day (which at one time was referred to as World Orangutan Day) as a way to promote conservation and happiness. Orangutan Caring Week, which takes place in November of each year, is also sponsored by the group.
