In 2012, Ben Lang, co-founder of Innovation Israel, and his colleague, Miriam Young, founded International Hummus Day. Nutella, another kind of spread, inspired the day's spread. Hummus deserved its own day as well when they learned World Nutella Day was commemorated the hazelnut spread.
