National Garden Meditation Day
Every year on May 3rd, National Garden Meditation Day, encourages people to take time for one's self and relax.
Meditation can be carried out in the garden, tending to the plants and flowers, or lying on a bench on a beautiful day in the garden. Both can be reductive to the body and a refreshing way to be out in nature.
Many health benefits can be found by meditation and gardening. When you pair it with the outdoor safety of a garden, you also get to enjoy the benefits that nature has to offer.
- Fresh air – We immediately benefit from being in the fresh air
- Audio therapy – Natural sounds of the birds, a water fountain, or a breeze through the trees – provide a reprieal from indoors' everyday chaos of television, radio, and other electronics
- Eases pain – gardening helps to loosen joints and stretch muscles. However, meditation alone helps to reduce pain
- Vitamin D – A natural dose (though limited) of the sun's bounty keeps us healthy and strong. To minimize the risk of overexposure, wear sunblock or protective clothing
- Improve sleep – Rest better by connecting with nature – Rest better sleep – Rest better sleep – Rest better by connecting with nature. Sleep will be more comfortable whether you're weeding weeds or focusing your thoughts among the flowers
- Worries begin to fade as our muscles relax and we take deeper breaths. We can also forget about our worldly worries for a while gardening
