On Silver Star Service Banner Day, every May 1st, Americans commemorate the sacrifices of the combat wounded, sick, and dying service members. The day also honors service members who have been awarded the Silver Star Medal.
The Silver Star Service Banner and Flag honors Silver Star families for their contributions and gallantry across all branches of The United States military. The observance of military heroes and their families around the country on May 1st encourages us to celebrate military heroes and their families.
1/10th of those who serve in the United States military suffer a serious injury. The majority of those injuries are related to combat. Veterans of the United States suffer with those injuries for the remainder of their lives. The injuries are often a constant reminder of sacrifices during war or conflict.

During World War II, the Blue and Gold Service Banners made their debuts in 1918. The Blue and Gold Star Service Banners were officially introduced and made official by the United States over time. However, the country did not recognize the Silver Star Service Banner. Representatives rushed to design and accept The Silver Star Service Flag and Banner was quickly created and accepted by representatives after being identified. The United States House of Representatives passed H. 855, a stand-alone resolution passed by the SSFOA on April 21, 2010, naming the SSFOA Silver Star Service Banner official and naming May 1st Silver Star Service Banner Day.
Since 1818, the military has been lauded for "Gallantry in Action," according to the Citation Star. The Silver Star Medal was first awarded in 1942 to the Citation Star and the first officially awarded it in 1942. The Silver Star Medal is given to military service personnel for specific actions in combat. Between 100,000 and 150,000 Silver Star Medals have been given by the military.
